Licking OCVN program - 2008

The Ohio State University Extension of Licking County is sponsoring its second training class for the Licking County Area Chapter of OCVN. The Extension Office is accepting applications for the class. The 40+ hours of training classes will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Mondays September 8, 15, 22, 29; October 6, 13, 20, 27; November 3, 10; and from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays September 20, and October 4, and 18, 2008. Classes will be held at various sites in Licking County. Applications are available on the web site, licking.osu.edu (click on Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist Program under County Topics) or at the Extension Office, 771 E. Main Street, Newark, Ohio. Applications are due at the Licking County Extension Office by August 1, 2008. Interviews for applicants will be August 19 - 21 and August 25 - 27 from 1 to 6 PM at the Extension Office.

The cost is $150.00 and includes class outlines, notebooks, handouts, published materials and some snacks and meals. A background check will also be required at volunteer’s expense.

The training includes classroom and field based instruction in ecological concepts, best education practices, nature interpretations, geology and soils, stewardship, aquatic life and watersheds, plants, trees and forests, insects, reptiles and amphibians, birds, and mammals. Instructors are OSU faculty, ODNR professionals, Extension specialists, Extension Associates, experienced Volunteer Naturalists, and other experts.

Hocking OCVN program - 2008

To conduct and instructors, agency people to meet monthly during 2008 in order to plan, conduct, select and interview participants for nine four hour classes in following locations in the Hocking Hills Region, times during June 2008 and topics to 20 volunteers, selected from 30 nominees made by cooperating and teaching agencies:
