State’s Oldest Trilobite Discovered in

Western Ohio Deep Well

 

New Cambrian-age fossil offers clues to Ohio’s geologic history

November 14, 2014—Geologists at the Ohio Geological Survey have discovered fossil remains of a trilobite believed to be the oldest ever found in the state of Ohio. The trilobite, thought to be a species of Olenoides, has been identified in a 4-inch diameter core of sandstone recovered from a deep well in northwestern Ohio.
