Wild Ohio - Leucistic Ruby-Throated Hummingbird

Oct. 25, 2013

ODNR Wildlife Photographer, Tim Daniel captures this video of a leucistic ruby-throated hummingbird as it goes about it's daily business. Leucistic hummingbirds are not considered true albinos as they have black bills and eyes and buff colored shoulders.  Tim pauses the video for us to allow time for closer examination.

Leucistic hummingbirds are not as rare as a true albino hummingbird. Albino hummingbirds can be distinguished by their snowy white feathers and their pink beaks, eyes and feet.
